Man's best friend - a kiss is just a kiss!

About Emmy
Our friends are active dog rescuers and at times have dozens of dogs in their house that have been saved from puppy farms. They told about an incident where the owner of the puppy farm burnt down the farm while the dogs were being rescued – only 25% of the dogs were saved.
Emmy was one of the lucky ones; she is a black Labrador and was the runt of the pack – she was tiny and was not fed, and we are told that she was lucky to live. We fell in love with her instantly and had to have her.
It took her a while to get used to us, and she is still skittish now – but she loves people, and once she’s barked at you for ten minutes she’ll then accept you as a friend and try and lick you to death. She is a tiny dog and will not grow much larger – she is our own perpetual puppy.
She is 7 years old now and we hope she can live to a ripe old age of 15; the joy she is giving us and our family will never be forgotten and she has a huge place in each of our hearts.
They say ‘a kiss is just a kiss’ but for me it signifies something special especially when it is between a man and his dog – it’s even more special when the man just happens to be eighteen months old. It reminds me of the days when things were more innocent and a time when there were no ulterior motives other than an expression of true emotion and the simply saying ‘I love you’.
It reminds that perhaps I should focus on those around me and remind them of my love; it’s time to forget about the daily worries and really understand what is important and what really counts in this life. It’s hard to do these days, with corruption, economic worries, world disasters and the pace of everyday life, but if you can take just 5 minutes to remind yourself of what is important for you, then you just may find that your day is a little bit brighter.
Capturing the Moment
I’d seen my Grandson kiss Emmy (our black lab) many times and most of these times were in the back yard in the sun – Id tried to capture the moment on camera many times, but somehow I could never quite catch them both together at exactly the right moment.
It was more by luck than planning that I captured this photo. We were in the living room watching TV; I was reviewing some recent photographs and just happened to have the camera ready to take the picture when my Grandson approached Emmy. Almost in slow motion I managed to point the camera, let it focus and take the picture – I was amazed that I managed to capture the picture just as the lips met, and was even more happy to have caught a good angle, and to be able to see the expression on my Grandson’s face as well as on the dogs.
It’s not the perfect picture, nor is it likely to win awards, but I’m sure that in many years to come it’ll be a reminder of how cute my Grandson once was, and it definitely is a reminder of the innocence of the young!
One can only hope that the bond between man and dog grows and prospers over the years as my Grandson slowly becomes a man – Emmy will not be around forever, but hopefully she will form an important part of my Grandson’s life and will teach him about loyalty and love.
Final thoughts
I had been hoping to capture this picture for months and had toyed with the idea of putting food on my Grandson’s face so that the dog could lick it off! However, I decided against this as I wanted a truly spontaneous moment – if you can capture this on camera, not only is it a true memory, but in 90% of the cases the picture will be far better!

Simey, this is adorable! Such innocence captured on film. Great job!
LOL Food on his face! Oh my-that would be something I would do and never admit to doing, haha. This is great.
Cute photo, beautiful dog-we have a black lab mix and she has a sweet personality.
This is a perfect story to win the hearts of anyone who loves dogs and children (I happen to love them both very much). Thanks for sharing.
I love the looking into a captured image and the priceless moment of emotions that solely belong to it.
What a beautiful moment you captured here. It is an adorable photo and a wonderful memory to store.
I'm glad you were able to get your perfect shot. I know your family, including your grandson will cherish this.
