Not surprisingly Apple’s iPod range dominate the Top Ten Best Selling mp3 player list (on Amazon) – with their innovative design, the intuitive interface and the ease in which they link to iTunes, they certainly set the standard for the mp3 player industry. With their innovative touch screen devices, and the ability to use the iPhone OS, they have also made the iPod into a device that can use a whole host of applications making it even more useful for the average user.

However, while Sandisk and Zune do appear on the Top Ten Best Selling mp3 player list, the list doesn’t really represent the true top ten mp3 players in terms of use and quality. Some other products that deserve a place in the top ten are:

Walkman NWZ-E345 16GB Flash Portable Media Player

Sony were the first company to make music portable with their classic Walkman series – their Walkman 16GB flash media player is an exceptional piece of technology, giving one of the best sound qualities available on any mp3 player, and also boasting a battery life of 30 hours when playing music (4 hours when playing video). Archos 7 Home Tablet.

While perhaps not really a mp3 player, this useful device is a good competitor for the iPad – with a nice seven inch screen and constant access to the web, it is a great tablet that provides access to mp3 and other multimedia content as well as a whole host of Android Apps – while not as easy to use as the iPod Touch it still is a nice competitor.

Samsung’s P3 32GB Black MP3 Player

This is a solid mp3 player from Samsugn which is pretty intuitive to use and has some interesting features that allow you to interact in a different way to many other mp3 players. With access to movies, photos and music it is a great little mp3 player that has decent sound.

While not as innovative as the new ‘touch’ range, the iPod classic set the standard for all mp3 players and if you’re not that worried about having Apps and a touch screen then this iPod is perfect – with a huge mini hard drive you can store most of your mp3 collection as well as quite a few movies.

The Nano is perfect for those music lovers on the go – it has enough memory to store thousands of songs, is easy to use and is small enough for joggers and commuters.

Sansa have produced many decent mp3 players over the last few years, and the Clip is perhaps their most successful – featuring a decent amount of memory, a fairly intuitive user interface and a decent sound this little player is a great alternative to the iPod Nano – it also allows you to use subscription services such as Napster and Rhapsody.

Microsoft entered the market several years ago and while they have not had the success of Apple, they have produced one of the best mp3 players on the market. This superb HD player has excellent movie capabilities and also really delivers decent sound. With their own subscription service, the Zune is really a great alternative to the ubiquitous iPod.
