Skyrim Walkthrough: Find Rjorn's Drum
84Whay are the Skyrim side quests important?
While you may want to rush through the Skyrim main quest, it’s always best to take your time and try and complete as many of the side quests as you can. This has several benefits:
- You will gain experience and be better prepared for the main quest
- You will loot plenty of treasure and be able to buy or find the best equipment
- You’ll expand your overall enjoyment
- You will get other bonuses as you complete quests.
I must admit that I was very impatient and ran through the main quest first, however now that I am taking my time I find that I am enjoying the game even more than the first time I played as I am building up my character, getting to know some of my followers and some of the key characters in Skyrim, and generally I am realizing how detailed and in-depth Skyrim actually is! The more I play the better it gets.

Skyrim Walkthrough: Find Rjorn's Drum
Part of the Bard’s College quest.
Now that you have joined the Bard’s College you will find several faculty members have quests for you. Find Giraud Gemane and he will ask you to find Rjorn’s Drum in Halldir’s Cairn. (located southwest of Falkreath)
Enter the Cairn – you’ll see a pillar and a few corpses around it. On a pedestal look for a journal and a key. Use the key to unlock the door and you’ll enter the main Cairn. Get ready to meet Draugr anf Ghosts – the battles are not tough, try and use ranged attacks when you can and make sure you have a few potions ready just in case. Once you find a throne with a Draugr sitting on it – look for a lever behind the room – this will unblock the door.
Moving through you’ll come across a pillar puzzle – look on the wall behind the glyphs for the solution. (Hawk, Snake, Whale) – pull the lever and the sealed door will open.
You’ll eventually come across Halldir – be wary here – he is a decent magician and will summon clones of himself as he loses health – each clone will use a different type of magic so make sure you’re aware what type of spell you should use against the clone. Once you have defeated him (I tried to ignore the clones as much as possible so I could work on Halldir – but eventually he lost magic and there were no more clones) take his staff and open the nearby chest to get Rjorn’s Drum
Open the trap door and go down – leave the Cairn and return back to Giraud to receive a reward (This includes +1 to all warrior skills)
