Skyrim Walkthrough: Alduin's Wall

Don't forget to develop ranged attacks

I must admit that I’ve been slightly disappointed by the puzzles so far – most have been very easy to solve and I really haven’t had to think about any of them. That is perhaps the only disappointment I have with the quests so far. They are varied, and you meet a whole set of enemies along the way, as well as plenty of traps and locks. Some, like the one you’re doing now aren’t overly complex, but with the amount of enemies to fight, it’s actually a nice change.

I’m finding that ranged attacks are more important than in any other game, and I really am beginning to concentrate more on ranged skills such as bow and magic – taking out mages quickly is very important and sadly I’m finding that I can’t always rely on my followers to do the right thing. Generally combat is logical, with most of the enemies reacting in a decent manner – there are glitches if you can find them, but overall I’ve had to work hard in some battles and have survived many of them by the skin of my teeth.

The challenge seems pretty balanced, especially when you tackle all the other mini-quests. I particularly find giants and trolls the worst enemies, although dragons are pretty bad too!

Skyrim Walkthrough: Alduin's wall

Skyrim Walkthrough: Alduin's Wall

For your next quest you’re going to need a horse as you have to travel far southwest to Sky Haven Temple. There aren’t any close towns to get a wagon to, so you’ll simply have to put up with the random encounters along the way – you can run from these, but you should take the time to gain the extra experience while you can.

Once you get close to the temple you’ll have a fight on your hands as you travel through Karthspire – this is pretty grueling so make sure you have plenty of potions along with you. Make sure your follower has a bow as you’ll come across quite a few mages; try to attack the mages early with range attacks. You should have Delphine and Esbern with you, so overall it is a manageable battle.

Move northwest and up the stairs – you’ll come across some pillars – it’s a mini puzzle – simply turn the pillars that that they all show the dragon reborn shape – the circular heart.

The next room is a trapped room – walk along the dragon reborn symbols – you’ll need to jump in some cases – pull the chain you find to disable the trap and lower the bridge. When you reach a stone head, Esbern will begin speaking – wait for the speech to fnish and then active the blood seal.

IN the next room Esbern and Delphine will talk – check out the mural on the wall – go and talk to Delphine and she’ll finally agree that you’ll need the help of the greybeards.

Now return back to High Hrothgrar for the next quest.

There's quite a few quests where you'll actually turn up at a place only to find a character is not there - usually waiting around for a while will solve this problem!

I got to the room with the face and all, and only Delphine was there... Waited for 24 hours in-game, but Esbern still didnt show up. So I backtracked and found Esbern near the beginning of the cave, stuck in a fighting stance when there werent any enemies to fight. Tried to rouse him by attacking him and fus ro dah'ing him silly, but he was still stuck. Hmm.

Esbern is missing for me, too.
