Preview of Lollipop Chainsaw
69Lollipop Chainsaw preview
Once in a while I come across a trailer for a video game that on the surface looks like another losing idea, but as the video moves on I begin to see a potentially huge game that may just get a cult following. As you watch the trailer to Lollipop Chainsaw you are reminded of some of the great B-Movies that use subtle flashes of flesh to entice the viewer and then fill the screen with gore once they’ve captured your attention.
Critics have already dismissed this game as it seems to be aimed entirely at a teenage boy audience; however I suspect that the sexy ‘school girl’ persona with the attitude and demeanor of Rambo may appeal to a far larger audience than many may suspect.
So what exactly is Lollipop Chainsaw?
Lollipop Chainsaw is an action video game slated to be released on the PS3 and XBOX 360 on April 24, 2012. It focuses on Juliet Starling, a young and pretty cheerleader who finds her old high school full of zombies. Of course she just happens to be able to wield a chainsaw as her quest to save her soul, and perhaps the world becomes engulfed in blood gore and action.
As the game unfolds it turns out that Juliet is actually a zombie hunter and with the help of her family and strangely enough a disembodied head fights hordes of zombies controlled by an evil goth sorcerer named Swan.
What type of game is Lollipop Chainsaw?
Take a look at the trailer and you’ll understand exactly what type of game Lollipop Chainsaw is. It’s an ‘in your face’ hack the zombie action fest – with sweet graphics, a thumping sound track and lots of glimpses of Juliet it’s sure to be an adrenalin rush.
While there are dozens of games tackling the ‘kill the zombie’ game type already, the game seems to take a fresh look at the genre and add a lot of humor and quirkiness into an already tried and tested formula.
As it’s published by Warnet Bros, there’s no doubt that there will be a decent plot and lots of cinematographic elements – James Gun (the filmmaker) has been quoted as saying many people in the film industry have their hands on this game – therefore look for a far more multi-media experience than any other zombie game so far.
Lollipop Chainsaw main features
- A combination of humor based around high school drama, and straight zombie killing action.
- Unique and creative gameplay by SUDA 51
- A deep and intriguing plot – the idea of a festival of zombie rock lords hints at some decent music.
- Use of acrobatic skills to defeat the undead.
So will Lollipop Chainsaw be good?
I may be wrong and this game may fail, but it seems to have all the elements to become a huge cult success. It’s sure to have a hilarious plot; it will have a great rock sound track; it has a pretty girl; it has zombies – and it has a whole host of ways of killing them!

Ridiculous game.
Disgusting mix of aspects (i.e. sensuality and gore) that do not belong together.
Designers of such games are really living out "revenge of the nerds"....sad.
