Kingdoms of Amalur: reckoning Preview, Hints tips and cheats
76Kingdoms of Amalur: reckoning Preview
Kingdoms of Amalur, due to be released on February 7, 2012 is a single-player role-playing game for the PS3, XBOX 360 and the PC. With R A Salvatore creating the universe and lore of the game, Rodd McFarlane (of Spawn fame) working on art work and 38 Studios and Big Huge Games designing the game it is likely to be a stunning role playing experience.
With 5 regions, 4 playbale races and a class system with a total of 66 abilities, the game mechanics seem toned down from more recent RPG games – indeed the combat is based on timing and is more of an action-RPG type style rather than the more advanced combat oriented games we’ve seen before. However, the designers have stated that strategy and roleplaying will serve you well in the game.
From what the designers and critics are saying, it seems to be a melding of the styles of God of War and Skyrim . The graphics are likely to be top class, and with the likes of Salvatore involved we’re bound to get a very immersive plot and some decent character interaction.
Reckoning Hints Tips and Cheats.
This section will be updated frequently. It will incorporate any hints and tips that will assist in the game, will provide Reckoning Walkthroughs where necessary, and if available will list any cheat codes (and how to use them on the PC, PS3 and XBOX 360).
(So far there are no cheat codes - as soon as I find them, if they exist, I will post them here)
Quick Tips
These are the tips I have found so far:
Don't focus on combat skills straight away
While you may want to focus on combat skills early on while leveling up I’d suggest at the very least you’ll want to concentrate on Detect Hidden and Alchemy – this way you’ll find a lot more treasure and also be able to start harvesting a lot of ingredients early in the game. Mercantile is another one to focus on as it will assist when selling and buying.
Parry a lot
One thing I noticed in the demo and now in the main game is that if you time the block really well your opponent seems to freeze giving you plenty of time to attack.
One at a time
When attacking multiple enemies, make sure you finish off an opponent before moving on to the next – if surrounded, use your dodge skills to evade combat and regroup so you can single out opponents again – don’t get caught in the middle as you’ll die quickly.
Shrines and Health
Look for shrines as you travel through the world of Amalur – these will give blessings and also many will allow you to recover your health.
Sneak and Dagger
One of the easiest ways to kill solitary enemies (if they are facing away from you) is to sneak up on them and use your dagger.
Watch your weapons
Not only should you constantly check to see if you are using the best weapons and armor, but you should also make sure their level remains high – keep visiting blacksmiths to ensure your weapons remain in tip top condition.
How to fill your Fate Meter Faster
While in games like Oblivion repeating tasks ensured that you would level up quickly, the opposite is true in Kingdoms of Amalur. You want to constantly use all of your combat skills as you play – combine melee , archery, magic and if possible back stabbing (to begin the combat) in the same combat and you’ll fill the Fate Meter very quickly allowing you to inflict extra damage in Reckoning mode.

Holy canoli. I'm not much of a gamer myself - my reflexes stink for them. And the largest amount of experience I have with role-playing games is Zork from a hundred years ago (dating myself), and I never got very far with them. Video games have certainly come a long way. If I ever got into them they could become a dangerous obsession!
