Final Fantasy XII: How to beat The Undying.
78The Undying Boss Battle: Final Fantasy XII
Final Fantasy XII featured some very mean bosses, and one of the meanest was the final boss! The Undying was very high level and had 65,000 HP – wow that’s huge. But as with most bosses in Final Fantasy XII there is a pretty good strategy that should allow you to beat this boss.
The first thing you have to do is to ensure you are over level 50 yourself – anything lower and this becomes an extremely tough battle to win – you may have to do some ‘experience grinding’ to get there, but if you’re at this point you’ve probably already done some of this already.

Final Fantasy XII is more of an experimental Final Fantasy. There have been many changes in the battle sequences, graphics, and plot. To my knowledge, this is the first Final Fantasy game that didn't... - Final Fantasy XIII: Boss Guide
Theres no doubt that the Final Fantasy series is excellent, however one of the biggest problems I have with the games is that sometimes the bosses are simply too hard and if you dont have the right...
General strategy to beat The Undying in Final Fantasy XII
- Start off by dispelling all positive status effects.
- Use Protectga and Shellga on your party as soon as you can – this should help a lot!
- Reflect is generally not used in this battle so don’t waste time – The Undying can do a lot of damage with his Sword and nearly as much with his Megaflare so keep an eye on HP at all times.
- When The Undying re-casts positive effects, dispel them immediately – this may not always work if he has Paling up and running, so watch out and don’t waste time when he does.
- Keep up your defensive spells – over time you’ll find he has some damaging attacks, and the defense will certainly help you through the fight.
- Don’t be stingy with elixirs – you’re not going to need them after the fight!
- This combat is generally a ‘wear the opponent’ down combat – watch your HP carefully, especially after being hit with the ‘big’ damaging hits and try and keep HP of all characters at least above 50% - try and attack when you have maximum HP, and dispel constantly, as well as renewing your defense.
- Don’t get discouraged, especially when he casts Paling – use this time to recast Protectga and Shellga and any other protective effects you may have used – also, this is a great time to heal up.
- As long as you keep your HP high, and don’t allow for any ‘sucker punches’ then you should be fine – the minute you lose a member of your party, then you’re going to struggle just to keep alive – that’s the aim, don’t lose a party member.
- Gambits – I must admit that this really is a personal preference and you’ve probably already got your own Gambits ready for the fight. Generally the ones I’d use are gambits like ‘arise’, ‘Curaga’ – this is really good to keep the HP high; Cast Dispel is very powerful in this fight. Shellga is important as is Protetga.
It is a tough grind, but overall it’s not the hardest boss in the game, especially if you are a high level – if you haven’t done any XP grinding and are below level 50 then this will certainly not be easy – but with a lot of luck you can still win this battle.
oh thank you so much, i've been using the reflect on your self strategy but you won't get extra magic when hit with reflect on.
i'll try anything after i saw he didn't have a health bar
