Online Resources for buying text books
College is one of the most daunting experiences you will ever face; with the high cost of attending, and the pressure of the work, it is a wonder that anyone actually graduates! One expense that has risen over the years is the cost of text books. It seems that the cost has spiraled as courses specify particular books that MUST be bought for their course.
One way to reduce the cost of this added expense is to search for online, pre-owned text books; this will help defray the cost of the books, and also will allow you to sell the books on once you have completed the course.
The best sources for online pre-owned college books are:
Ebay – this is probably one of the largest and securest ways of buying pre-owned college books online. Always try and buy from sellers with a high feedback rating – this ensures peace of mind, but more than that you know that the seller is legitimate – you may find though, that many students are selling their old books, so they may not have a history of sales – however, if they provide pictures of the books you normally can make an informed decision on whether they are legit or not.
Amazon.com – quite often you can find pre-owned college or text books on Amazon. They may not be as cheap as an auction site, but as you are shopping through Amazon.com then you know they are more likely to be legitimate sources of pre-owned books. Additionally, with the advent of the e-reader, there are many text books that are coming out on the Kindle or Apple iPad and therefore the cost of producing the books is cheaper, and thus the price is cheaper.
www.abellabooks.com - this is another great source to buy or sell college text books. Normally I found that if I couldn’t find a book on eBay or Amazon, Abellabooks have it. The prices are generally reasonable, and the feedback on the site is generally good – so it’s always worth shopping around and seeing what you can find!
Craigslist – this is another great option for finding college books – I tend to be more wary of buying from Craigslist, but as a last resort it’s always worth looking to see what you can find.

If the professor posts the course text before the term begins, then students can save big bucks by ordering books online. If the text isn't revealed until the first class meeting, students can fall way behind if they have to wait a week or two for their reading material to arrive.
