Apple TV - Scratch and Sniff Computer Monitors
77Coming to a TV near you soon...
Welcome to my latest article; I have always tried to be on the cutting edge of technology, always buying the largest TVs, the most powerful computers and the best gadgets. In the spirit of innovation that I love I have decided to innovate myself and come out with the first Scratch and Sniff article on Hubpages, and dare I say in the world.
With some movie theaters now allowing you to immerse yourself totally in a movie by providing scratch and sniff cards and adding prompts in relevant sections of the movie, I decided to enhance this article by providing places where you can scratch and sniff.
Of course, most of you will not be able to take advantage of this aspect of my article, but don’t fret, soon Apple will release their TV, which will also be used as a computer monitor – and as you know they are the most innovative tech company in the world - so therefore I am pleased to announce that the soon to be released Apple LCD TV will include ‘scratch and sniff’ technology.
Scratch and Sniff Technology
As you may have read, Steve Jobs, before his untimely death, was very excited that he had finally found a way to improve the living room experience by introducing the Apple LCD TV. Now if you had seen the actual interview that took place between the author and Steve Jobs, you would have noticed that as Steve explained his excitement he started to scratch his nose, and had a glint in his eyes.
Now this may seem inconsequential to you, but for insiders this was an obvious hint at the technology to come. While many companies have tried similar innovations, Apple have teamed with chemists all over the world to come up with an LCD display that incorporates all the chemicals that make up every smell to man – the key is a unique system that allows Apple to combine these chemicals and induce them via electronic impulses to be emitted from the screen.
So, for instance, if there is a rose on the screen, you will be able to run over to the screen, scratch the rose, and smell the wonderful fragrance of roses in the summer. Early tests have not been fully successful though; in a recent dry run, one man scratched a cooked carp on the screen and due to an spelling error in the algorithm smelled crap instead.
All told though, the tests have been highly successful so far, and Apple execs have been seen watching the Food channel during their lunch breaks.
Applications of the Scratch and Sniff technology
Although this technology is new, it promises to revolutionize the modern world; here are some real world uses:
- Medical – quite often doctor’s are able to tell if a wound is infected simply by smell – with Doctor’s already performing operations and diagnosing conditions remotely, the scratch and sniff technology will give them an added element to assist them.
- Video Games – top video gamers will now be able to smell the fear of their opponents in the latest online games.
- Multimedia – imagine viewing a video about a restaurant and then being able to smell the food as it is cooked.
- Social – imagine being able to send your loved one a Facebook message and to include your favorite perfume; or perhaps as boys will be boys, you’ll be able to send farts to each other.
Known Movies and Games to be enhanced by Scratch and Sniff
- Game: World of Warcraft – smell the foulness of the enemy.
- Game: FIFA 2013 – blood, sweat and tears are to be featured.
- Movie: Harry Potter (All movies) – various food products and all the main characters will be enhanced by smell.
- Upcoming movie: the life and times of a dung beetle – nothing has been said about the smells yet.
So is this an early April Fool’s day joke?
Yes and no! Apple LCD TVs will not have a Scratch and Sniff feature, but with the way TV makers are trying to be innovative, I wouldn’t be surprised if there is some element of Scratch n Sniff appearing in movie releases soon, and if it catches on I’m sure Apple will incorporate it into their technology!
