Brittany Murphy 1977-2009
68
The world lost a wonderful actress today.
Early on the morning of December 20, 2009, the LA fire department responded to a call relating to a medical request at the home Brittany Murphy (and her mother). Sadly, having collapsed in her bathroom, with cardiac arrest, she was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and pronounced dead on arrival.
While a full post-mortem has to be done, first signs appear to say that the death was from natural causes.
My sincerest condolences go out to her husband and family on this sad day; words cannot convery the sadness of this event, and her ex boyfriend (Ashton Kushter) sums it up well on his Twitter site “2day the world lost a little piece of sunshine. My deepest condolences go out 2 Brittany’s family, her husband, & her amazing mother Sharon”
Her Childhood
Brittany Myrphy was born to Sharon Muprhy and Angelo Betolotti in Atlanta Georgia on November 10, 1977. Her parents divorced when she was two and her mother raised her in Edison New Jersey and eventually in LA where Brittany had decided to pursue an acting career.
I personally thank her mother for giving up everything and moving to LA to assist her daughter - without this sacrifice, we would not have had the privilege to see Brittany star in many wonderful and diverse roles.

Her Acting Career
Brittany started acting at 14 and gained a few roles early on in shows such as Murphy Brown and Derell’s Class. She went on to appear in many mainstream shows such as Frasier, Boy Meets World and Party of Five before breaking into the Movie world.
The first movie which really enhanced her career was Clueless. This started to show the world her quirkiness and while she was beautiful, it highlighted her character and the fact that she seemed more than just a Hollywood bimbo.
This was highlighted throughout her career as she tackled many diverse and tough roles, especially in 8 Mile where she played Eminem’s girlfriend. It was her ability to take on tough roles and shine which allowed her to star in many critically acclaimed movies such as Sin City.
While she is perhaps not an instantly recognizable actress, anyone who is serious about movies and really knows the good actresses aside from the major stars knew of Brittany and the talents she possessed.
Personally I first saw her in Clueless and was instantly ‘in love’ with her quirkiness; when I saw 8 mile I was blown away by her performance and really admired her ability to play such a tough role convincingly. I was truly shocked when I found out about her death this morning and she will truly be missed by me and many other fans.

Her Music
Brittany was a multi-faceted talent; not only was she an exceptional actress but she was also an accomplished singer. She performed on the USS Minitz on June 19, 2004, released a song with Paul Oakenfiled in 2006 (hitting the UK chars in June) and more recently covered ‘Somebody to Love’ and ‘Boogie Wonderland’ in Happy Feet. While she never focused on her musical side of her career, it did show the potential she had, and I wouldn’t have been surprised to see her star on Broadway one day – the obvious acting talent, combined with her musical abilities making her an obvious choice for Broadway roles.
Her Personal Life
I will not delve deeply here, as it is her 'Personal Life':
In May 2007 she married Simon Monjack a successful British Screenwriter.
Note: I will not earn revenue from this site - there are no Google Ads or links to Amazon movies. I simply pay tribute to a beautiful young actress who has sadly left us. I pray that her family can find some peace during the holiday season, and find some solace with the outpouring of love from her fans around the world.
